Moving is stressful enough without having to deal with unprofessional or incompetent furniture removal companies. However, it's important to understand how furniture removal companies work and to have realistic expectations. It all starts with hiring a professional furniture removals company with a good reputation and experience.
By the time moving day comes around, you have probably spent a lot of money already you are likely tired from packing. When you see certain things the movers do, you may be pushed over the edge.
Here are some of the common issues most moving companies are approached about:
You're paying by the hour and the movers are taking their time, and one is doing nothing
Moving your precious items carefully to avoid damage does require time. If you see one less crew member than what you paid for, check on the back of the truck. The third one is probably packing, wrapping and strapping items to ensure they reach their destination safely. They don't want to spend one minute more than necessary on a project. Just like you, they want to get home to their families and relax.
The movers are careless with your items
If you don't like the way they're handling your items, do ask them to be more careful. If they are throwing boxes around or careless, stop the job right away and call for a supervisor to attend right away. Reputable moving companies know that your items are precious and they want you to be happy with their service.
Moving day need not be awkward. You have your new home (and the trip there) to concentrate on. Let the movers worry about the uploading and offloading.
More Tips for a Successful Move Day
If it's going to be a long day, pack or buy the crew lunch and tell them of your intention when they arrive. Many of the guys don't have the money or time to do it and it will make their day.
Once you are done packing, show them what you want them to take and respectfully give them the space and freedom to do what they need to do.
Relax - you're almost home!
